A new record of Percursaria percursa (Ulvaceae, Ulvales) on the North Island, New Zealand

چکیده
The filamentous green alga Percursaria percursa (Ulvaceae, Ulvales) was recorded for the first time on the North Island of New Zealand at Ōmokoroa Estuary, Tauranga Harbour. This species is previously known within New Zealand from only two records, both from the South Island. In Tauranga Harbour, this species was restricted to anoxic estuarine sediments where mangrove forests had been mulched, and mulchate left in situ. Percursaria percursa was found intertwined with Ulva spp. and Rhizoclonium spp. Surveys of other North and South Island estuaries suggest that this alga, although occurring as part of nuisance green algal blooms in Tauranga Harbour, has only colonized human-impacted locations, and has not yet been observed in ‘natural’ estuarine ecosystems in New Zealand. As this species was found intertwined with other mat-forming filamentous green algae, it can easily be misidentified in the field, leading to both overand under-reporting of species occurrence.

A New Record of Diderma (Myxomycetes) from Turkey
Turkey is a favourite place for the growth and the development of myxomycete due to its climatic conditions and flora. During routine field trips to several locations of Gökçeada (Çanakkale), which is the largest island of Turkey, numerous samples of myxomycetes were collected. According to the available checklists, Diderma effusum (Schw.) Morgan records for the first time from Turkey. It has b...

متن کاملSystematics and ecology of the Australasian genus Empodisma (Restionaceae) and description of a new species from peatlands in northern New Zealand
The genus Empodisma comprises two species that are ecologically important in wetland habitats. Empodisma gracillimum is restricted to south-western Australia, whereas Empodisma minus is found in Tasmania, eastern Australia and New Zealand. We sequenced three cpDNA genes for 15 individuals of Empodisma sampled from throughout the range of the species. The results support an Australian origin for...
متن کاملHave local stages outlived their usefulness for the New Zealand Pliocene- Pleistocene?
Stratigraphic subdivision of the New Zealand Pliocene-Pleistocene has its historical basis in biostratigraphy, especially in the shallow marine strata in the Wanganui and East Coast basins, North Island. Internationally, an astronomically calibrated, high resolution timescale is now well established for the PliocenePleistocene, based on predominantly precession-controlled sedimentary cycles in ...
